Description:
After positioning to this remote community on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis (Outer Hebrides), we spent a busy morning at Uig Primary School. Although it was a cool and grey day, we received a very warm welcome from both staff and pupils. The morning started with parallel sessions, where the P1-3 group did the ‘Earth, Sun and Moon’ module, followed by the ‘Solar System’ workshop, whereas the P4-7s started with the ‘Solar System’ and then switched to the ‘Stars and Constellations’ module. After break, the P1-3s learnt about Space Exploration, whilst the P4-7s undertook a brief ‘Introduction to Gravity’ talk, followed by a more in-depth ‘Nature of Light’ module where the created a basic spectroscope to take home with them. It was then time to quickly load the car, grab lunch from the nearby community shop and then head 30 miles down single track roads to the Isle of Bernera (across a bridge) for an afternoon visit to the island’s small primary school.
