Description:
The final school visit of the AfRIS project involved a short drive for our team member that lives in Argyll. Strachur primary is a small school on the Cowal Peninsular with two class groups and just 28 pupils. We worked with the younger groups before break, where we looked at the Earth, Sun, Moon and other planets of the Solar System. We also had the pupils making, naming and describing their own planets. After break, our presenter switched to the older group, and covered both ‘Stars and Constellations’ and the ‘Nature of Light’ activities before lunchtime.

After lunch, the older P4-7 class grabbed their laptops and started hunting for asteroids in telescope data from the Liverpool Telescope. The day ended with our ‘Space Exploration’ talk to P3 and above pupils. Once the pupils had departed, it was time to pack up one final time and sadly bring the first phase of the AfRIS project to an end.
