Description:

The original plan was for Scott to fly to Tiree on Wednesday (7th Feb), in order to make an early start at Tiree Primary on the 8th, and for Chris to join him once the Coll to Tiree ferry had arrived around 11am. However, the Wednesday flight was rescheduled to Thursday morning due to poor visibility, which meant that we both arrived at the school just before lunch. Although we made a late start, we were able to split up and cram in more activities than normal, with the promise of some more tomorrow. Although the population of Tiree is only 650 people, the primary school had a healthy community of 68 pupils, which made for good audiences and healthy discussion. Whilst Scott looked at the Solar System with the P4-7s, Chris investigated the Earth, Sun and Moon with the P1-3s. The next day we added a look at Galaxies for the older group and a tour of the Solar System for the younger ones. This was our first visit to a school where many of the pupils were taught in Gaelic, and although all the children were fluent in English, it was nice to experience another of the native languages of the British isles being used around the school.
