A farewell to Arran

The 21st and 22nd November marked the first informal visits for the AfRIS project, and saw us conducting two trial workshops with small schools on the beautiful Isle of Arran. Our first visit was to Whiting Bay Primary school, with the outreach team working with a selection of different classes throughout the day. After a little bit of tinkering, all of our new demonstration equipment seemed to work well, and the newly developed modules seemed to go down well with the pupils. We spent the second day with Kilmory Primary school and spoke to all 17 pupils as one group, thereby covering several topics. The students seemed particularly taken with some of our ‘Nature of Light’ demonstrations, which were designed to demonstrate light that the human eye cannot see. Sadly, we had to rush off at lunchtime in order to catch the once-a-day ferry to Kintyre, as that was our only chance of getting to Isle of Gigha before the last ferry. The image above was taken when heading north from Lochranza (Arran) towards Tarbert (Kintyre).

If you wish to follow the travels of the outreach team, then feel free to visit our team tracker page, where we will post brief reports and images for each of our school visits.
