Careers in Astronomy
Summary
Here we look at the exciting opportunities available for keen students to study and pursue a career in astronomy. We start be looking at what qualifications are needed to secure a place on an astronomy or physics degree course, and then explore in more detail what such a course will entail. A Skype call to a current research student will allow participants to share and discuss their concerns. We then turn our attention to the typical career opportunities available to astronomy graduates, and the typical career progression of a professional research astronomer. A second Skype call to a current researcher will give students an opportunity to ask further questions. We finish by looking at some of the other varied careers that astronomy graduates can find themselves in.
