Description:

Having missed our overnight ferry last Sunday, and with there only being one ferry a day, today was our hastily rearranged (from Monday 23rd May) visit to the Mid Yell Junior High School. Thankfully NorthLink ferries were very good about changing days, so we were able to extend our trip by one day to ensure that no pupils missed out. As you can see from the pictures, Mid Yell Junior High school is a very modern building, and right in the heart of the island community, and next door to the community swimming pool and gym. For a community of around 1000 people, there seem to be very good facilities. The plan for the visit, was to run and few modules with a wide range of pupils, so we spent the morning with the primary pupils (P1-7) and the afternoon with the secondary (S1-2) groups. Before lunch we looked at the Earth, Sun and Moon, Nature of Light and Gravity, whilst the afternoon was spent looking at Robotic Telescope and Hunting for Asteroids in the IT suite. Needless to say, all groups were very enthusiastic and seemed to embrace the tasks involved. Once again, the sun shone throughout the day, and saw us back to Lerwick to catch the overnight ferry back to Aberdeen.
