Description:

The first day of our visit to the islands of Islay and Jura was a split day between Port Charlotte and Bowmore Primary schools. For this visit, one of the team came to the main town on the island (Bowmore) to work with a variety of class groups. The day started with the P1 class (age 5-6) learning about day & night, the seasons and lunar phases during the ‘Earth, Sun and Moon’ module. We then switched to the P2-4 class, who took a tour of the solar system, and learnt more about asteroids, comets and dwarf planets.

After lunch, we switched attention to the ‘Nature of Light’ module, which was repeated for the P5-6 class and then the P7 class, with the P7s having enough time to create their own spectroscopes, using a card-board cut out tube and some diffraction grating paper. It was then time to pack up and head to Port Charlotte to collect the other member of the team.
