Description:
After a day off to explore and relocate from Lewis to Harris, we spent the whole day at the Sir E Scott School in the port village of Tarbert. Our time was split between the P4-P7 English and Gaelic taught class groups, with each group enjoying six activities that amounted to nearly 5 hours of contact time. The day mostly involved us running parallel sessions, and started with the ‘Solar System’ module, followed by ‘Stars and Constellations’. The groups came together before lunch to listen to our interactive ‘Introduction to Gravity’ and ‘Nature of Light’ talks. After lunch, we dug out a bunch of windows-based laptops and learnt more about observing with ‘robotic telescopes’, a session that involves using image processing software to analyse astronomical images from the Liverpool Telescope. We ended the day back in the main hall, where Scott gave our ‘Space Exploration’ talk. The school day over and the car packed, it was time to explore some of the stunning scenery and golden beaches of Harris.
