Description:
Our second November trip involved a long drive up to the far north-east of the Scottish mainland, with a visit to Wick in Caithness, which is some 15 miles from John O’Groats. The school was incorporated into a shiny new campus, with wonderful facilities for both us and the students. Because it was such a fairly large school (for us anyway) with a 7 form entry, we focused all of our attention on the S1 (age 12-13) year group, which meant running modules multiple times to ensure that the class sizes were not too large. Over the course of the day, all 7 classes got to undertake the solar system workshop, enjoy a talk about space exploration, and have an fascinating introduction to gravity.
After a day that saw both of the team working flat out, we treated ourselves to an obligatory visit to John O’Groats, albeit in the semi-dark at this time of year. It was then back to our accommodation ahead of tomorrow’s visit to Noss Primary in the town.
