Description:
Having spent the morning at Uig Primary School some 30 miles away down single track roads, we arrived over the bridge to the Island of Bernera, for an afternoon with the pupils of the island’s small primary school. With less than two hours left in the school day, we were fortunate that all the parents readily agreed to us running an after-school science club, so that we could extend the amount of time we had with the children. We spent the whole afternoon with the entire school (P1-7) – 12 pupils in a single composite class – and ran 3 sessions: Stars and Constellations, Space Exploration and Nature of Light. By the end of it, all pupils went home with their newly created planispheres and spectroscopes. It was then time to say our goodbyes and head across Lewis ahead of the following day’s visit on the east coast.
