Description:
The second day of our end-of-June visit to Sgoil Bhaile a Mhanaich on the siland of Benbecula. Extensive causeways allow easy travel between the islands, so it didn’t take long to get down from our overnight stop on North Uist. With it being a much larger school (100+ pupils), we had to repeat a number of sessions for different class groups. In the morning, we ran ‘Earth, Sun and Moon’ and ‘Solar System’ for two different P1-2 classes. The above image shows some of the planets that were created during the solar system module. We then ran ‘Hunting for Asteroids’ for a P5-7 class, whilst also running the ‘Solar System’ module for one of the P3-4 classes. The two groups then combined for a ‘Nature of Light’ session before lunch. We ran the same sessions after lunch, but for the other P5-7 and P3-4 classes, after which, the whole school came together in the sports hall for the final ‘Space Exploration’ talk. It was then time to pack the car and say our goodbyes. Scott was dropped at the nearby Benbecula airport to catch the flight back to Glasgow, whilst Chris (with all the equipment) lodged a further night on South Uist before catching the early ferry back to Mallaig and then home.
