Description:
The first day of our short visit to the Uists and Benbecula was spent at Sgoil an Iochdair on South Uist. We arrived into Lochboisdale the previous evening off the ferry from Mallaig, which meant we could make an early start. With just under 50 pupils, the two of us (Chris and Scott) we able to divide our time between P1-4 and P5-7 groups throughout the morning. The younger group looked at the ‘Earth, Sun and Moon’ and ‘Solar System’ modules, whilst the older group investigated the ‘Solar System’, ‘Stars and Constellations’ and the ‘Nature of Light’. After lunch, where we discovered seaweed crisps (!), the older group elected to ‘Hunt for Asteroids’ before joining the rest of the school for a talk about ‘Space Exploration’. We then packed up, said our farewells and drove up to North Uist for a night-stop, ahead of our next visit.
