Description:

After catching the last ferry yesterday evening to our night stop on North Uist, we had an early start to drive the 37 miles down to the primary school in South Uist. The journey took well over an hour due long stretches of single track roads with passing places. Due to an afternoon sporting event, we were only down to spend the morning at Sgoil Dhalabroig, which meant that we focused on the Earth, Sun and Moon, and the Solar System, but were also able to squeeze in a look at the Nature of Light for the older pupils. The new school was only built in the past few years and provides wonderful facilities for both the 75 pupils and the rural community. Once again, sunshine blessed our day, and we were able to explore the island a little more whilst the students undertook their 3 mile run. There seemed to be a strong desire from staff for us to make a return visit next year, but this time encompassing all 4 schools on the Uists and Benbecula, perhaps as some form of science festival – something we would be keen to work with others to achieve.
