Return visit to the Isle of Arran

The beginning of summer, judging by the decent weather anyway, saw the mobile team heading back to the Isle of Arran to visit some of the schools we missed last November. We started the visit on the 22nd May 2018, and were asked by the schools joint Head Teacher to split our day between two small primary schools on different sides of the island. The morning was spent working with 14 pupils at Pirnmill Primary, then a quick pack of the car and over to Corrie Primary on the East coast of the island, and it’s 10 pupils. Both schools were situated right on the coast, and had wonderful views out to sea – something that most schools around the UK can only dream of. Even though time was restricted, we still managed to offer a good range of modules and activities, which saw pupils looking at Stars and Constellations, Robotic Telescopes and Space Exploration. It was a very busy day, but once again, it was good to work in detail with a small number of students. Day two was spent at the larger primary school in Brodick, the island’s main town, where the team spent the whole day with its 63 pupils, conducting a broad range of activities and workshops … including Solar System, Stars and Constellations and Robotic Telescopes. After that, it was time to load up in order to catch the afternoon back to the mainland and home.
