Ben Nevis and the Great Glen …

The dust has barely settled from the Easter holidays and it’s straight back into school visits for the mobile team, who headed up past Ben Nevis and along the banks of Loch Ness. From our base in the lochside village of Drumnadrochit, we made full day visits to Balnain (Glen Urquhart) and Cannich Bridge (Glen Affric) Primary schools. With 31 and 54 students respectively, both schools were small village primaries consisting of mixed-age class groups. Apart from the odd shower, the weather was warm and clear, which allowed us to appreciate the stunning scenery. We held a community event at Balnain Village Hall on the 18th April, and were delighted to welcome 40 members of the local community to an evening of astronomy. The children of both schools were enthusiastic, knowledgeable and seemed genuinely appreciative of the visit. It was very rewarding to have a queue of pupils wanting to ask more questions after the day had finished, and to find ourselves discussing event horizons with an 8 year-old.
